How snooker is scored
A red is worth 1, then the colours: yellow 2, green 3, brown 4, blue 5, pink 6, black 7. While reds are on the table you pot a red, then a colour, and the colour comes back. With the reds gone, the colours go down in order, yellow to black.
The order
- 1Pot a red, then any colour you choose
- 2The colour is put back on its spot; go again on a red
- 3After the last red and its colour, pot the colours in order: yellow, green, brown, blue, pink, black
- 4The frame ends when the black goes down, or a player concedes
Why 147
Fifteen reds, each followed by the black, is 15 × 8 = 120. The colours in order add 27. 120 plus 27 is 147, the maximum break.
Points on the table
With reds still up, every red left is worth 8 (red then black), plus 27 for the colours. The board shows the points remaining after every shot.
