Snookers required

When one player leads by more than the points left on the table, the other needs snookers: fouls from their opponent to make up the gap. Each snooker is counted at the penalty for the ball on, so through the reds and the first colours each one is worth 4.

Working it out

  1. 1Count the points left: 8 a red, plus 27 for the colours
  2. 2Take the lead away from the points left
  3. 3If the lead is bigger, divide the gap by the penalty for the ball on, rounding up

The penalty for the ball on

4 for a red, the yellow, the green and the brown. 5 on the blue, 6 on the pink, 7 on the black.
