The miss rule
In refereed snooker, a foul can also be called a miss when the player has not made their best attempt to hit the ball on. The opponent can then have the balls put back and the shot played again. Many club leagues play without the rule, or only for a clear shot: check yours.
How it plays
- 1The player fails to hit the ball on
- 2The referee calls foul and a miss
- 3The opponent takes the points, then chooses: play on, make them play again, or put the balls back and make them replay the shot
The clear ball
If the ball on could be hit full in a straight line and the player misses it three times, the frame can be awarded to the opponent. Players are warned before the third attempt.
