The free ball

If a foul leaves the next player snookered, unable to hit both sides of the ball on in a straight line, they get a free ball. They can nominate any ball as the ball on, and potting it scores the value of the ball they were on.

How it plays

  1. 1The referee, or the players, agree it is a free ball
  2. 2The player nominates any ball as the ball on
  3. 3Potted, it scores as the ball on (1 on a red) and is put back
  4. 4With reds left, they are then on a colour as usual

One limit

The free ball cannot be used to snooker the opponent behind the nominated ball, unless only the pink and black are left.
