Groups then knockout

Players are split into small groups and play everyone in their group. The top one, two or four from each group go into a knockout to decide the winner. Everyone gets several matches, and the event still ends with a final.

How it works

  1. 1Players are seeded into groups so the strongest are spread out
  2. 2Each group plays a round robin
  3. 3The top finishers go into a seeded knockout
  4. 4Players from the same group are kept apart in the first knockout round

When to use it

For a one-day event with 8 to 32 players, where everyone should play more than once.
